Welcome to Auvergne !
Auvergne is situated right in the middle of France: 350 km south of Paris, 350 km north of Montpellier, 300 km east of Bordeaux, 200km west of Lyon. It is quite easy to get to Clermont-Ferrand, the capital of Auvergne, by car as two major highways (north-south and east-west) cross there. It takes more time to get there by train, except from Paris (3h30). But Auvergne is really worth the trip ! It is a country of very open spaces, of volcanoes and lakes where you can hike for days. A country of marvelous romanesc churches and castles. A country of old traditions and good food (try the local cheeses, like saint-nectaire, the ham, the "truffade" a mixture of potatoes and melted cheese).
