Ukraine is a country in Europe with some 46 million inhabitants.
Language
The official language is Ukrainian, but in the eastern, southern and central part of the country most people speak Russian. Russian should not be a problem in the western parts, but especially younger people often have problems with Russian.
Transport
When travelling between towns and cities inside of the Ukraine one can use the trains and buses (marshrutki). They are not expensive. The timetables for the trains are on-line in English, but one has to remember that they use the Ukrainian version of the town names here (Kyiv for Kiev, Lviv for Lvov etc.). Travelling by plane is useful only between the capital and other cities - everything else would fly via Kiev.
