Food in Karlsruhe is generally a little more expensive than in other parts of Germany. Expect 6-10 EUR for a pizza, and 4 EUR for a Döner Kebap.
The turkish restaurants around the university tend to be a little cheaper, some even have student discounts (and usually don't ask for a proof that you're a student).
"Cafe Bleu"-Chain
There is a little local chain, consistnig of 4 restaurants that have pretty cheap food. These are:
- Cafe Emaille, Kaiserstraße, close to Europaplatz.
- Cafe Bleu, Kaiserallee 11, next tram station Mühlburger Tor
- Die Kippe, Gottesauer Straße close to Durlacher Tor
- Cafe Galerie in Durlach right at the tram station Auer Straße.
All of these have breakfast all day from 2,90 EUR (without drinks) and 8 different daily menus (at least one vegetarian) for 3,90 EUR. It's simple food, but the servings are huge.
Die Pinte
is basically a pub, with absolutely cheap drinks, i.e. 2 EUR for a 0,5l beer. They also have some food, like huge sandwiches for 3 EUR.
