WikiCouch is a travel community guide for Hospitality networks like [http://couchsurfing.org/ CouchSurfing], [http://hosptalityclub.org Hospitality Club], [http://bewelcome.org BeWelcome], [http://BeLodged.com BeLodged], [http://www.globalfreeloaders.com Global Freeloaders], [http://servas.org Servas] etc.

A travel community guide is something like [http://wikitravel.org WikiTravel] but more personal. It helps you experience travel with the senses of a local.
'''Trustroots Wiki''' is a wiki for [[Trustroots]] and related projects. We can use it to build Trustroots travel guides, as a notepad for ideas and whatever else you come up with.

== Why use Couchwiki? ==

Simple. Because Couchwiki is open to anyone and everyone. It is in keeping with the philosophy of inclusion and openness. We believe in decentralized control, in self-moderation, and that everyone who has something valuable to contribute may do so with ease.
In a former life the Trustroots Wiki was '''Couchwiki''', a travel community guide for hospitality networks like [http://couchsurfing.org/ CouchSurfing], [http://hosptalityclub.org/ Hospitality Club], [http://bewelcome.org/ BeWelcome], [http://BeLodged.com/ BeLodged], [http://www.globalfreeloaders.com/ Global Freeloaders], [http://servas.org/ Servas] etc.

Plus, it is unsure if the couchsurfing wiki will continue as it is and it's good to have a backup with a nicer philosophy.

Trustroots Wiki is a wiki for Trustroots and related projects. We can use it to build Trustroots travel guides, as a notepad for ideas and whatever else you come up with.

In a former life the Trustroots Wiki was Couchwiki, a travel community guide for hospitality networks like CouchSurfing, Hospitality Club, BeWelcome, BeLodged, Global Freeloaders, Servas etc.

A travel community guide is something like Wikivoyage but more personal and more about community activity. It helps you experience travel with the senses of a local.

Why use Trustroots Wiki?

Simple. Because Couchwiki is open to anyone and everyone. It is in keeping with the philosophy of inclusion and openness. We believe in decentralized control, in self-moderation, and that everyone who has something valuable to contribute may do so with ease.

What are the guidelines

History and background

Back in August 2006 guaka (talk) started the original Couchsurfing Wiki in 2006 (and hitchwiki a bit later, and trashwiki in 2008). In 2007 he stopped volunteering for couchsurfing because of the direction chosen, a direction which became clearer and more crystallized throughout the years (the 2011 sellout and the draconian ToU of 2012 were not really a surprise).

Since 2007 the couchsurfing wiki wasn't really maintained anymore and in 2009 there were talks about deleting the entire couchsurfing wiki and the idea was born to start an independent wiki, that is Couchwiki. In December 2012 the Couchsurfing corporation finally announced they will render the couchsurfing wiki inaccessible to the general public. This deletion finally happened in 2013, which finally allowed a proper wiki community around hospitality exchange to come into life.

Hosting and costs

Couchwiki was hosted for free by Guaka, who also pays for the domain name. Trustroots Wiki is kinda the same for now.
