Leeuwarden
Leeuwarden is the capital of Friesland. The city is home to about 90.000 inhabitants. Leeuwarden's compact medieval centre is surrounded by defensive canals and includes many old buildings. The city is home to three Universities of Applies sciences: Stenden, Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden and Van Hall.

Hospitality community
Leeuwarden has a small active community who organises a few regular meetings:
- the monthly meeting is organised every Wednesday in the middle of the month. Between 10 to 25 people meet up in cafe de stee. The meetings are announced both on BeWelcome and Couchsurfing.
- In 2012 Leeuwarden started hosting a big event in the summer called Welcome to Fryslan. This is will be organised in 2013 again and will probably become an annual event.

Getting Around
Train
Leeuwarden is the train hub of Friesland. It has a connection with:
- Heerenveen, Zwolle, Amsterdam/Rotterdam
- Groningen
- Franeker, Harlingen
- Sneek, Stavoren
Walking
The historic centre of Leeuwarden has the ideal size to walk in. From the train station it is only a 5 minute walk to the city center. The main shoppins street is the Nieuwestad. smaller and more interesting streets are Kleine Kerkstraat, Sint Jacobsstraat and Oosterstraat.
Bike
