The town is situated near the swamp of Brière, an important natural reserve, the second biggest damp area in France after the Camargue (South of France).
It is also located just a few minutes away from the salt pan of Guérande, ancestral salt production. Both of these areas include a great fauna and flora.

Saint-Nazaire has a few beaches, like, for example, Villès-Martin, or, a bit further, Porcé, from which you can reach creeks if you follow the pathway along the beach (« chemin des douaniers »).

The urban area of Saint-Nazaire stretches on the right bank of the river Loire's estuary to its end in Batz-sur-Mer, Le Croisic and Guérande.
