* The area around the North of the Ben Thanh Market and right up to the Presidential/Reunification Palace, has plenty of choice from around $20+ / night - all the way up to 5 star.  - http://www.hostelworld.com  one of the big sites, has a good feedback system, with some very blunt comments. good!

 - http://http://www.travellerspoint.com/accommodation.cfm  has forums, blogs, travel tips, photos.
 - http://www.hostelbookers.com   
 - http://www.hostelZ.com  not the same as above, note the 'z' ,  claims to have reviews of all hostels.  Mainly another booking site.
 - http://www.hostelsweb.com specializes in YOUTH HOSTELS but have a lot of cheap hostels in  a kind of "code sharing system" as well.
