Salon de Provence is a city in France in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur. This city os situated on the crossroads of the ways of the south of France, close to the Alpilles, of the Luberon and Avignon, Arles, Marseille and Aix en Provence. Dominated by the Emperi Castle, Salon de Provence cultivate an art of living and a quality of clean life to become an ideal holiday's place. City of Nostradamus, Salon know how to combine heritage and view to the future. We still make some Savon de Marseille in some societies and there is a famous air base.
HISTORY OF SALON DE PROVENCE
Salon was a Gallo-Roman oppidum well positioned on the salt trade routes between Adriatic, Atlantic and Mediterranean seas, hence its name. This region was under the Phocaean influence since the sixth century BCE, and stretches of the Via Aurelia can still be recognized just outside the town, but the earliest mention of the place under its familiar name is of the ninth century, as Villa Salone. The archbishops of Arles controlled the site.
Its principal claim to fame today is as the place where Nostradamus spent his last years and is buried. His dwelling is maintained as a museum, and for four days every June or July, the city celebrates its history during the time of Nostradamus, attracting tourists.
The historic center still lies within its circuit of walls, entered through two seventeenth-century gateways, the Porte de l'Horloge and the Port Bourg Neuf. In the sixteenth century Adam de Craponne built the canal that still bears his name; inexpensive freight brought commerce to Salon, and the town prospered.

Les moyens pour venir à Salon de Provence
- En Train (TER):
La gare SNCF de Salon est située à environ 10 minutes de marche du centre ville. En quittant la gare, il suffit de suivre le boulevard face la gare « Boulevard Maréchal Foch » pour arriver à « la place Morgan », lieu central de notre petite ville. Salon est placé sur la ligne TER Avignon-Marseille. Le trafic et les horaires sont assez limité, mais c'est cependant suffisant si vous n'êtes pas pressé. Les horaires sont ici: [1]
La gare de Miramas (à 15 minutes en voiture) est une bonne alternative pour avoir plus de trains vers Avignon, Montpellier, Marseille... Il existe des trains et des bus (société Ouest Provence
- En TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse):
La gare TGV la plus proche est « Aix-en-Provence TGV », à environ 25 km. Il existe des navettes qui relient régulièrement Salon à « Aix TGV », les horaires sont ici: [[2]] A noter que a gare « Avignon TGV » est à environ 40 minutes de voiture, cela est pratique si vous partez vers le nord notamment, comme alternative à « Aix-TGV ». Les parking y sont moins chers et plus pratiques.
- En voiture:
Par l'autoroute A7 (Venant de Marseille, Aix ou Lyon) Par 'autoroute A54 (venant d'Arles, Montpellier, Barcelone...) Compter environ 30 à 40 minutes pour rallier Aix, Arles, Avignon par les routes départementales, sans péage. Entre 35 et 50 minutes pour joindre Marseille sans la section payante de l'Autoroute.
- En Avion:
Via l'aéroport international « Marseille-Provence Marignane » et mp2 (compagnies low-cost): [[3]] Les tarifs pour garer la voiture plusieurs jours (ou plusieurs semaine) sont bien plus inintéressant que ceux des gares TGV. Éventuellement, cela peut être intéressant si vous utiliser la navette « Aéroport – Aix TGV ».
- En Stop:
Avec un peu de patience, ça marche assez bien il paraît.
Pour visiter les villes voisines
- Marseille : Train TER ligne 9 ou via le TER 7 : passe par la côte bleue (plus lent mais des paysages superbes, avec les arrêts dans les villages le longs de la côte.
- Aix en Provence ; 30 minutes en bus, départ toutes les heures
- Arles : Bus Cartreize ligne 18
- Istres, Martigues : Bus Cartreize ligne 25
- Avignon : train TER ligne 9 (environ 40 à 50 minutes)
- Villages voisins : bus, vélo, marche
Accès à d'autres lieux: Les collines autour de Salon: 20 à 30 minutes à pied, quelques minutes en voitures ou vélo (demandez à vos « Host CS ») Sites touristiques dans les environs (la vallée des Baux De Provence, Saint-Rémy...) sont accessibles en voiture ou vélo pour les plus courageux.

How to get to Salon de Provence
- By Train (TER):
It will take you 10 mn to walk from the train station to the center of town. Walk along the Boulevard Maréchal Foch just acoss the road from the train station and you’ll arrive at “Place Morgan” ( “place” is the French word for “square ), very close to the historical center. Salon is between Marseille and Avignon on the TER railway-line. There aren’t many trains, but it’s enough if you are not in a hurry. Here are the time-schedules.[[8]] The train station in Miramas ( 15mns’car drive from Salon) is a good alternative if you need a wider choice of trains to Avignon, Montpellier, Marseille.

- By TGV (very fast trains) :
The nearest TGV station is Aix TGV about 25 km away. There are shuttles salon to aix, see here for time schedules. Avignon TGV is is about 40mn away by car, but it can be a good idea if you’re travelling to or from north, and parking fees are cheaper and easier to use.
- By car:
A7 highway/motorway from Marseilles, Aix or Lyon. A54 Highway/Motorway from Arles, Montpellier, Barcelona. You can also drive on roads in about 35mn (Aix) 50 mn (Arles, Avignon) 35 to 50 mn if you come from Marseilles using only the free part ( leave the highway at Berre).
- By carpooling:
You can find a driver or passenger to share the ride and cut on travel cost. In France carpooling is very popular and is called "covoiturage".

- By plane:
From “international Airport in Marignane (“Marseille-Provence-Marignane ») or mp2 (low-cost) same airport.[[9]]. It’s cheaper to park a car here for a few days than in TGV train stations. You might also use the shuttle to or from Aix-TGV, Marseille or even to Salon ( fewer ones).
- Hitch-hiking:
If you’re patient, it does work.
To visit nearby places
- To Marseille: TER line9 or if you can, line 7 which strolls around “Côte bleue/ Blue Coast”: Beautiful landscapes to see and you might stop for a swim in one of the small harbour towns or on beaches on the way (La Redonne, Caro, Carry, etc…)
- To Avignon, TER train line 9 (40 to 50 mn)

- To Aix en Provence 30 mn by bus, every hour or so ( but not very late!)
