  • August: See all the museums at the KaMuNa.
  • Get nostalgic and play old arcades like Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat (almost) for free at Retrogames. Only on 1. tuesday each month at 7pm and every saturday at 9pm. Combine that with a visit to the artsy Gotec club then.
  • Go to a students party: The big ones (mostly free) are Z10 Sommer/Winterfest, AKK Sommer/Winterfest, Z10 Cocktailabend, UStA Sommer/Winterfest (small entry fee), HaDiKo Sommer/Winterfest, Parkplatzfest. Additionally, there are lots of smaller parties at HaDiKo, the various departments of university, at Z10 and AKK.
  • Indulge in some very German mixed gender nude sauna spa: Vierordtbad, Ettlinger Strasse 4 is a nice one and in the middle of the city, the pool must be used with swim wear. If you've never done it before, read the instructions carefully. Don't confuse this with "Sauna-Clubs" or "FKK-Clubs" which are erotic venues. Afterwards, a pizza and beer at Wolfsbräu tastes even better.
  • Go swimming in one of the many lakes around Karlsruhe: Baggersee Weingarten (S1, S2, S3 to Weingarten(Baden) + 10 min walk) has public barbecue grills and facilities, Epplesee Forchheim (S2, S4 Forchheim + 10 min walk) is easily reachable by S-Bahn as well, Streitköpflesee Linkenheim (S1, S11 Linkenheim Rathaus + 20 min walk) has a nice peninsula. At night, grab a car and go skinny dipping with your friends but keep in mind: parking is forbidden at night, you'll get a ticket! At Streitköpflesee Linkenheim, you can park outside the gate for free.
  • Have a last minute picnic at Schlossgarten: Go shopping at EDEKA, buy the best pretzels in town from the bakery, Obazda from the cheese/dairy product section and fresh pre-cooled "Kühler Krug" beer from the fridge (alternatively, a six-pack of Zäpfle or the beer-lemonade mix Höpfner Grape). Enjoy some German Gemütlichkeit and a nice view of the castle.
  • Have a good fresh beer in one of the Vogelbräu locations.
  • No place to barbecue? Rent the barbecue hut of the Badische Brauhaus with kegs of fresh beer - yummy (rent 50 EUR, food and drinks around 30 EUR/person, 10 person max). Do it in wintertime, as it will be awfully hot and steamy in summer. You can plug in your own MP3 device. Don't miss out on the homemade beer brandy.
  • Play Flunkyball at Schlossgarten. Gather 6 to 10 Players and have fun with the best drinking game ever.
  • Start your night out with free concerts at the students favourites Z10 (Zähringerstrasse 10 pretty much every saturday during lecture season) or AKK (various weekdays).
  • Drink cheaply and meet students at Z10 (Mon, Wed, Fri during lecture season). Friday comes with special events, always free of charge.
  • Play roulette with Erna, Kriegsstrasse 5: Enter money and random numbers, be happy about what life gave you. Pro tip: don't do it being sober ;)
  • Have a hangover "Hammer" breakfast or good ol' Schnitzel at Die Kippe, Gottesauer Strasse 23.
